It's not everyday you can take down 5 large, dead, and dangerous trees for low-income neighbors seeking assistance through NeighborLink for only $500. The Crossing Educational Center in Elkhart, IN developed a professional tree removal company several years ago as a tool to help the trouble youth in their programs find purpose, learn leadership, and learn a valuable marketplace skill. The Crossing has locations in Fort Wayne and across the state. The Xtreme Team, as they're called, partnered with the Fort Wayne location on Thursday and Friday (3.5 & 3.6) to help assist low-income neighbors seeking assistance through NeighborLink for free.
It's not exactly free because their is fuel costs, minor equipment needs, and food for the team for two days, but it was free to the homeowners. For $500, they took down 5 large trees that have a market value of easily $5000-$8000. Between some fantastic donors and the resources of a few of the homeowners who could contribute a little, we were able to raise the $500 and get all the projects completed. We're looking forward to partnering with them more in 2014.
