This is our friend, Molly. Molly approached us about a month ago with a desire to incorporate NeighborLink into her Birthday Celebration, which is a pretty big deal for Molly. Molly shared with us that she comes from a family where birthdays are celebrated all month long and in bigger than life proportions. They celebrate life to the fullest. She felt the internal call to share that blessing with others and wanted to invite her friends, families, and social network into her birthday and encourage them to give to NeighborLink instead or in addition to her. Molly was a single mom and has a unique perspective that relates to many of our neighbors who find themselves in a challenging phase of life. Molly has set a $500 goal and would invite you to give a few bucks on her behalf. You can check out her project by clicking here.
It's encouraging to see folks connected to NeighborLink offer to give the only day that is purely about themselves to someone else by fundraising on our behalf. The one time where you can ask for anything, do anything, and feel purely celebrated just because you're you. But for these folks, it's more than just a "me day" to them. It's about the "me" they want to be and the "me" that can leverage their "me" day for others. Thanks Molly Link, for reminding us all that we can have a "me" day and still make the world a little better place.
When your next birthday comes up, consider just briefly what it would mean if you decided to put your desires aside and encouraged your connections to donate to your favorite charity instead. What would it mean for you to not get the thing you've been wanting or what would it mean for those that are used to getting you things to now be faced with the decision to donate instead? Give it a shot and let us know what you experienced.
