Serving Roxanne on our first ???official??? NL service event was truly a joy! Our Tuesday night group consisted three volunteers and myself. Bill, who was volunteering for the first time. Fransico, who was now a seasoned volunteer having one service event already under his belt & last but not least, Gay who has only been with NL for a month but has already coached/completed several projects. We pulled up to the project site at 5:35 and spent a few minutes meeting Roxanne and Crackers her dog. Roxanne walked us around & showed us what she would like done. We wasted no time in getting to work at that point!
We spent the next three hours working together pulling weeds, edging beds, trimming shrubs & laying down mulch. Four people, 3 hours, 1-1/2 yards of mulch and 1 trailer load of debris later the front & one side of the house were completed. Roxanne came out to see the progress we had made & she was so pleased! We were getting ready to have prayer with Roxanne & discovered what a kind heart she has. This past winter, Roxanne had taken in a homeless person (who still lives with her). A true act of kindness! The team was tired but decided to share a meal together & celebrate our victory over the weeds before going our separate ways for the night.
Saturday morning we again rallied at the NL office but this time had more reinforcements! The same crew from Tuesday night showed up to complete the job but we also had 9 other volunteers join us to tackle the back yard & alley. We were on site shortly after 9am. Roxanne greeted us all & then the work began. Everyone started in on a different job???edging beds, trimming shrubs, pulling down ivy, cleaning out flower beds & trimming up branches. It wasn???t long before we had piles of brush stacked up everywhere. Once we had beds cleared out we started hauling in more mulch to spread, another 1-1/2 yards. 2-1/2 hours later & another FULL trailer of debris, Roxanne???s place was really looking great!
A great start to a summer of service opportunities! Hope your able to join in with us soon.
