Hundreds of neighbors hit the streets in Waynedale on the far south side of Fort Wayne to help sandbagging efforts to protect homes due to severe flooding of our City's rivers. NE Indiana has been pounded with rain for the past couple of weeks, which have causes the normally stable rivers to swell and overflow their banks beyond what the built in overflows could handle. Homes were endangered and homeowners were frantically trying to protect their homes.
NeighborLink board members, staff, and volunteers took time out of their days to mobilize their families to join the efforts. We're grateful for those that don't stop at a feeling of compassion, but respond to that feeling with their actions. It's what makes our volunteers truly unique.
As of 9am on 6.19, the City of Fort Wayne says no other sandbagging help is needed. There is more rain in the forecast, so we'll keep you posted on other opportunities to help if they come up. Stay tuned to our Facebook Page or our Twitter account for real time updates as they come in.
