After living in Ohio for most of her life, 70-year-old Carol Kortokrax now lives in Leo with her dog Max. Carol has three children, none of whom live in the area. She has been divorced for many years, and has been single since her companion of 11 years died a few years ago.
In April, NeighborLink volunteers were able to build her a porch after she fell the previous winter. For fear of her age and health, she reluctantly submitted a request. The relationship between her and the volunteers has extended into future projects such as replacing her kitchen fan and plumbing work. As needs surface in her house, she takes comfort in knowing she has neighbors who take care of her. Carol's story is a reflection of many other elderly neighbors who now are often unable to take care of bigger issues in their homes.
