Summer Recap
This summer was busy.
Between May-August over 330 projects were completed. From mowing lawns to painting houses; pulling weeds to replacing roofs; building wheelchair ramps to fixing windows - plus much more - we were able to help many neighbors this summer.
We had 5 groups from out of town that helped make that number of completed projects possible. It is encouraging when volunteer groups visit Fort Wayne to love our neighbors and the community that we care for deeply.
We also could not have helped that many neighbors without the volunteers who regularly commit their time and resources to taking on projects each week. It's hard to shed proper light on volunteers who wish to remain out of the spotlight, but we are humbled by those who are invested in NeighborLink and committed to changing our community one neighbor at a time.
It was a successful summer. Thank you to everybody who volunteered!
Looking Forward
Summer may be winding down, but the needs of our neighbors aren't. September means leaf season is upon us, and snow season is just around the corner.
Our hope is for homeowners to become less dependent on NeighborLink and more reliant on you - their neighbor who can help. The more initiative you take in your own neighborhoods, the fewer projects we have on our site that may or may not get taken on. However, we are always in need of volunteers willing to get out of their houses and love the neighbors who come to us with nobody to help them. A lot of the calls we receive from here on out will be elderly and disabled neighbors who are unable to remove their leaves or snow without help.
We would encourage & challenge you to check frequently on your own neighbors who may fit this category & take care of them throughout these seasons. If you need help finding your neighbors in need, you can sign up as a volunteer (if you haven't already) and find neighbors nearby through searching for projects by zip code.
Let's work together to love our neighbors well this fall and winter.
Here's a little guide to help navigate the site to find your zip code:
Step 1: Search for projects on homepage
Step 2: Search by zip code
Step 3: Look for your zip code
