"A volunteer puts in minimum effort, but one called of God puts in maximum effort.”
AKA a volunteer may go through the day thinking this...
And if we are honest with oursleves we all have successfully done this, which may be the reason this is such a funny/relatable meme.
It’s easy to enter a work-like situation with the goal to do the absolute bare minimum. Efficiency tends to trump quality in today's society. Don’t get me wrong, efficiency is great, but we must not forget about quality, especially the quality of our relationships.
When it comes to loving our neighbors, how can we expect to exhibit that love if we are always holding back? Sometimes it is easier to enter a service opportunity with a goal of getting the task done as quickly as possible without even taking notice to those we are helping. We get in and we get out. Our attitude doesn’t particularly match what God is calling us to do.
Loving my neighbor is not always easy. It involves energy I do not always want to give up. If it were up to me, I’d keep that energy for myself, but when I truly reflect on what it means to show the light of Christ, I remember it’s not always about me. In reality it’s all about Jesus Christ. It is so easy to put in the minimum effort, but Christ is calling us to give it all we got. In other words he is calling us to love the crap out of each other. He is calling us to help each other in the hard times. He is asking us to sacrifice our time for Him. Can we find that time? Can we put in the extra-effort?
