I can hardly believe that it's already been 7 1/2 weeks interning here at NeighborLink. Time truly does fly, doesn't it? I thought I would fill you in with what us interns have been up to!
First of all, we are thoroughly enjoying ourselves. There is not a day that passes where laughter is not heard in the office. It's a blessing to come into a work place where the people are committed to their work, believe in the organization's mission and make sure to have fun all at the same time. I am happy to say that over the past several weeks I have not only gained more experience within my PR skills, but I have also gained new friends. :) I know, I know a little cheesy, but it is very true!
This week started out with an intense workout at the Athletes with Purpose facility. An 1 hour workout that left us all gasping for air with the sweat to prove our hard work. Needless to say, we were sore the next day. Thank you Devin (our trainer) for the killer workout!
Bethany has been working diligently with YFC (Youth For Christ) on weekly projects! It is great to see this partnership continue to engage teens into our community. She also is helping organize a project with a group from Kentucky this coming Thursday & Friday. Their group will be helping a woman named Roxanne build a porch in her backyard as well as painting the trim around her house. We had the pleasure of meeting Roxanne a couple weeks ago, so I am so excited to witness the project getting completed!
Beth and I have been busy painting in preperation for the Three River's Raft Race this Saturday! It really is coming together. Thank you Aaron Makin for taking initiative for this awesome community event. He has constructed a raft in the shape of a house, which is about 8 feet long and approximately 6 feet high. We will be the best looking raft floating down the river in our cozy home. Feel free to come support us this Saturday June 20th @ 11 am. We take off at the Sweeny Park West and finish at the MLK bridge.
There are still a couple weeks left for us here at NeighborLink...and I am not ready to say goodbye! This has been an amazing learning experience with an even more amazing group of people. God surely is at work within this organizaiton. Can't wait to see where he leads us in the next coming weeks!
